Regarded as the UK’s Queen of Soul, Mica Paris will grace the ARC Stockton with her amazing soul-gospel voice on Saturday 24th October 2015, where we hope to expect to hear the classic hits as well as new material.
The now 46 year old Mica from South London has had a successful solo career since she was signed by Island Records at just 17 but has since suffered well documented breakdowns during this period including the loss of her brother Jason in a shooting which has led her to being involved in raising awareness through anti-gun crime support.
On her way back to putting the bad times behind her she has taken part in musicals, TV and radio presenting and was back with a new album in 2009.
Hard to believe the hit song ‘My One Temptation’ was released way back in 1988, taken from her huge selling debut album ‘So Good’ which was co-produced by a then young Will Downing. Their duet of the cover ‘Where Is The Love’ also provided the album another hit in the singles chart. Incidentally, ‘So Good’ was reissued this year in an expanded deluxe version with 13 bonus tracks.
‘Contribution’ was her second album and featured the Prince penned track ‘If I Love U 2 Nite’, but a return to the singles chart was brought by the songs ‘I Never Felt Like This Before’ and ‘I Wanna Hold On To You’. Her album ‘Black Angel’ released in 1998 and produced by Julian Jackson is well worth a listen for its true soulful emotion.
Mica was recently working on new material with non-other than the legendary Rod Temperton, the man behind the monster hits of ‘Thriller’, etc. for Michael Jackson. Referring to herself as always being voluptuous, she enjoys cooking having won on the TV programme Come Dine With Me and has a love ancient history.
Mica will begin her 2015 solo tour straight after her current part in the hit Fifties-set musical ‘Love Me Tender’ this summer, a part she’s thrilled with, due to its feel good nature, and the fact that her mum is absolutely mad about Elvis. Positive reviews have been given for Mica’s soul-busting renditions of the king’s tracks in this production. Now we look forward to hearing Mica’s own work at ARC.
